It was about 19 years ago, during a trip to Spain, when I first tasted Churros – a type of fried dough (doughnut?) that you sprinkle with sugar and dip in chocolate sauce.
It was a bright day in October, and we stopped at a mountain pass on our way to Segovia, there was a strong wind blowing and it was cold.
We drank hot chocolate and ate Churros – I remember that it was very tasty.
I have not tasted one like it since, a lot of food we ate in Spain we have not eaten since, so i guess it is time to revisit.
Once in a while I hear the word Churros which reminds me that maybe I should attempt making them myself, now I have decided the time has come.
Ingredients
125 ml water
125 ml milk
100 gr butter
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
150 gr white flour
4 eggs
Preparation
Boil the water, milk, butter, salt & sugar in a saucepan
Add the flour while stirring until it thickens and remove from the heat
While waiting until mixture drys a little, scramble the eggs
Add the eggs to the mixture and mix well
Heat the oil for deep frying and start frying
Turn over when light brown, wait for other side to brown and remove
Sprinkle with sugar
Goes well with hot chocolate and frothed milk
